Objectives

The goal of the Mirvac case study was to divert organic food waste from landfill across Mirvac’s hospitality and retail portfolio as part of their ambitious 2030 sustainability strategy, which includes a target of zero waste to landfill by 2030.

The objectives were:

  2. To identify the volume of food organics within the landfill stream

  • A substantial diversion of food organics from landfill, addressing the 60% of Mirvac’s landfill stream identified as food organic material
  • Prevention of harmful greenhouse gas emissions that would otherwise result from organic waste in landfill
  • Recovery of nutrients returned to nature through soil and crops
  • High recycling rates achieved across Mirvac centres

Occupational Health & Safety
